Mayor's Moment: A City Update from Mayor Edd Akers

Mayor Moment

Dear Branson Community,

I thought ‘April showers brought May flowers’ but it seems like we are a month ahead. You’ve got to love this Missouri weather. If you wait a while, it will change. I love these hills and all four seasons.

I hope everyone had an enjoyable St Patrick's Day this week. It is always nice to see people wearing green which is often thought of as the color of hope and spring. Speaking of spring, it is great to see all the families in town visiting for spring break. Driving around on Hwy 76 this week has been a lot like driving around during our crowded summer periods. As much as I always enjoy seeing the attractions on Hwy 76, I am glad we have the ability to get places a little faster using our colored road route system. Our Blue, Red, and Yellow Routes really help us avoid the traffic areas.

If you are driving or walking around this weekend near the Branson Convention Center, you may see a few people carrying bows and arrows. One of the largest state archery tournaments in the nation is happening right here in Branson. The Convention Center will see hundreds of students in fourth through twelfth grades at the Missouri National Archery in the Schools Program (MoNASP) State Archery Tournament, which is hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation. Good luck to all.

Interesting Factoid of the Week:  The Branson Tourism Tax statute and the ballot questions require that the tax and bonds be issued for the purpose of funding sidewalks, streets, highways, roads, waterworks, and wastewater, including distribution and collection systems. The city has identified more than $80 million for these types of projects.

Thank you to those who continue to pray for our city. Please stay positive and be thankful for living in the best city in America.

Thank you for letting me serve you,

Mayor Edd Akers
