Police Officer Minimum Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to qualify with department issued firearms.
  • Must be 21 years of age. 
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. 
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation and post-offer medical evaluation.
  • Vision must be correctable to 20/40; must pass the Ishihara color vision test and/or be able to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing red, green, and amber; and must meet established hearing standards. 
  • Must possess no felony convictions, and have no serious misdemeanor convictions within the past 5 years.
  • No offensive tattoos or brands; i.e. depicting or supporting criminal behavior, drug usage, nudity, profanity, promiscuity, subversive groups, bigotry, etc. No tattoo or brand may be visible while wearing any department approved/issued uniform or plain-clothes attire.
  • Must be able to pass in-house training courses on the proper use of various police equipment.
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Communications Officer Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • One year of experience in working with the public.
  • Must be able to obtain MULES certification
  • Must be able to obtain PST1 certification
  • State Mandated Continuing Education Requirements
  • National Career Readiness Certificate preferred.
  • Must be able to attend occasional required off-site training.
  • Must possess no felony convictions.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation and polygraph examination.
  • Must be able to pass in-house training courses on the proper use of applicable equipment.
  • Must be able to lift/move/carry more than thirty (30) pounds and occasionally lift or move greater weights with equipment or assistance. 
  • Must adhere closely to departmental and City of Branson policies and procedures.
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Police Officer Positions

We offer two positions for newly hired officers.   

The first is Police Officer I. This candidate is a commissioned police officer.  If hired within 24 months of graduation from the academy there is potential reimbursement for the fees and expenses connected with the Police Academy. 

The second is Police Officer Trainee. This candidate is not a commissioned police officer. The Department will pay the fees and expenses in connection with the Police Academy on behalf of the Trainee as well as paying the Trainee a salary while they attend the Academy.

Hire an officer

Officers are available for hire at a rate of $35 per hour. The city reserves the right to adjust this rate as necessary. Officers hired for extra-duty employment will be assigned in uniform with a patrol vehicle. In this status, they are fully empowered to enforce any law as they would during a normally assigned shift.

By special request, Officers can be provided in plain clothes attire.
